PSG Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
